With the popularity of e-bikes, their production as well as the warehousing and logistics industry is accelerating in Southeast Europe. In fact, the electric bicycle production and warehousing logistics industry is one of the few sub-sectors that has not only not been affected by the new coronavirus outbreak, but has developed faster.
Bulgaria and Poland are the new engines for electric bicycle production in Europe. According to the latest report from the Federation of the European Bicycle Industry, e-bike sales in the EU and the UK increased by 40% to 22 million units in 2020, with total sales reaching 18.3 billion euros. It was also the best year since the group collected market data. With the increasing demand for e-bikes in Europe, it is not difficult for traditional bicycle manufacturers such as Poland and Bulgaria to switch from traditional bicycle production to the production of e-bikes in the face of growing demand. The increased demand for e-bikes has brought huge benefits to Bulgaria and Poland, which, according to Eurostat data published in July 2021, has become the fourth largest bicycle manufacturer in the European Union, reaching an annual production of 1 million units in 2020. During the same period, Bulgaria ranked fifth in the European Union with 484,000 bicycles produced, ahead of France with 430,000 bicycles produced.
The rapid development of the industry benefits from the already established traditional bicycle supply chain, the well-established traditional bicycle production chain in Poland and Bulgaria, relatively low labor costs and proximity to large EU markets such as Germany with strong purchasing power, which provide rare conditions for Bulgarian bicycle production. The huge demand for electric bicycles in Europe has prompted Bulgarian companies to quickly adapt to market demand and switch from traditional bicycles to electric bicycles
